Editor-in-chief's welcome

As an old-new Editor-in-Chief, I would like to welcome the Reader!

The Civil Review (Civil Szemle) is a respected journal with a long tradition going back 20 years. It is consistently ranked high in the lists of journals of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in various disciplines and is one of the few journal that is included in various international rankings. The journal is published four times a year, with occasional special issues. It is a prestigious journal to publish in.

In 2024, a new editorial team takes over the journal, aiming to achieve Q3 status. To this end, we will apply two and only two criteria to the selection and publication of articles: relevance and quality.

In our case, relevance means that the journal intends to focus exclusively on studies relating to the civil sector, although it takes a very broad interpretation of this. It covers a wide range of topics, from pro-social activity, volunteering, civic activity, non-profit organizations, the self-movement of the non-profit sector, to the interaction between the state, the for-profit sector and the third sector, all of which are based on the civil society, whether they are sociological, political science, social psychology, economics, regional studies, socio-geography, cultural anthropology, education, etc.

Quality, in our interpretation, means the uniqueness of the articles, the novelty of their approach and their contribution to the scientific corpus.

In this context, and in line with trends in scientific communication, articles will be given a DOI number, and the permanent columns of the journal will be discontinued, with only three ad hoc columns. The ’Take-off’ will be a publication platform for early career researchers, ’Real World’ will serve as a platform for case studies and best practices, and ’Review’ will focus on reviews and examples from abroad. Take-off a kezdő kutatók publikációs felülete lesz, a Való Világ az esettanulmányok, legjobb gyakorlatok terepeként szolgál, a Kitekintés pedig a recenziók, külföldi példák bemutatását tűzi ki célul.

At the same time, we want to reach out to research groups and doctoral schools, offering them a publication platform and strengthening our presence in English.

We hope that both the objectives set and the changes introduced to achieve them will gain the support of our readers, our authors and all our partners.
