For Authors – Publication and Peer Review Process

Publication process

Civil Review (Civil Szemle) is a quarterly professional journal that publishes academic analyses and studies on civil society and the nonprofit sector. All articles for publication must be original, i.e. they must not be under peer review by another journal or have not previously appeared elsewhere. As the journal is listed in international citation indexes, submissions will be accepted as follows:

1. The publication process starts with registration and submission of an abstract of up to 400 words (topic, research question, methods, results).

2. Authors of submitted abstracts, whose abstracts fit the profile of the journal and, in the judgement of the editorial team, meet the quality standards of the Civil Review (Civil Szemle), will be invited to submit the full article (approximately 40 000 characters, docx format, APA7 style, with DOI identifiers of sources in the bibliography).
The abstract must be submitted in both English and Hungarian and three to six keywords must be provided.
A short (maximum 10 lines) curriculum vitae of the author should be submitted in English and Hungarian, in continuous text, written in the third person singular, with the author's electronic contact details. (Supporting information: birth data, education, workplace, relevant experience, awards, main research topics, etc.)

3. The article will be evaluated by the editorial team to determine whether it meets the publication requirements of the publication. If so, the editor-in-chief will start the reviewing process, if not, feedback is sent to reject the paper.

4. If the paper reflects what is promised in the abstract, the Editor-in-Chief will appoint an Editor to oversee the paper and invite external reviewers to evaluate the manuscript. The reviewer(s) will assess the relevance and quality of the paper, its content and format, using an evaluation form, and will make a recommendation for publication. The Editor-in-Chief, together with the Editor, will decide on the further fate of the paper on the basis of the reviews and proposals received.

5. The author revises the manuscript on the basis of the reviews and editorial guidance received and resubmits it. The Editor will consider whether the author has responded adequately to the criticisms and will decide, together with the Editor-in-Chief, whether to accept the manuscript. If necessary, he will ask the author for further revisions.

6. The editor-in-chief, with the help of the editorial team, schedules the publication of the article in the in a forthcoming issue of the journal, and in consultation with the editor in charge of the article and the readers' editor, prepare the final, printable version of the article.

7. Authors will receive an honorary copy of the printed issue.

After completing the registration form below, your articles will be sent to civilszemle@gmail.com  in Hungarian or English.
